Energy efficiency programs are missing out on the untapped savings potential of multifamily buildings. While many utility programs offer direct installation measures or in-unit kits to multifamily residents, they rarely implement comprehensive energy-efficiency strategies such as equipment or building system upgrades. Building on ACEEE's 2020 multifamily energy savings potential analysis, this brief profiles four multifamily utility efficiency programs and the successful approaches they’ve used to achieve high savings in the South, West, Midwest, and Northeast regions of the United States. The highlighted programs are tapping regional energy savings opportunities, implementing strategies to reach deeper savings, and encouraging more comprehensive energy-saving measures.
